Ovarian Cyst
Women who are using oral contraceptives are at increased risk while using this medicine. There is a risk of formation of an ovarian cyst/enlarged follicles associated with mild abdominal
pain in patients using this medicine.
Breast Cancer
Women using combined oral contraceptives (example progestin with estrogen) are at risk while using this medicine. There is an increased risk of developing breast
cancer in patients using this medicine. Women who have breast cancer should not use this medicine.
Genital Bleeding
Women who are using progestin-only oral contraceptives are at risk while using this medicine. An irregular menstrual pattern including genital
bleeding, is common among patients using this medicine. If the prolonged absence of menstrual periods occurs, the patient should be evaluated for the possibility of
pregnancy.
Heart Diseases
Patients who have diseases such as increased blood pressure, raised blood sugar level (
diabetes mellitus), high blood
cholesterol level,
obesity, autoimmune diseases, an existing blood clot in the vein or a history of blood clots in the veins are at an increased risk when using this medicine. Patients with heart diseases should be managed appropriately while using this medicine and consult with their doctor when using Norestil.
Vision or Visual Abnormalities
Women who are using oral contraceptives are at an increased risk while using this medicine. There is a risk of sudden loss of vision, displacement of the eye, double vision,
migraine, and other issues related to the eyes in patients using this medicine. If partial or complete loss of vision occurs in the patients, Norestil should be discontinued.
Cigarette Smokers
Women who smoke cigarettes are at risk when using this medicine.
Smoking increases the risk of severe heart diseases in women. Women using oral contraceptives are strongly advised not to smoke.
Combined Oral Contraceptives Use
Women using combined oral contraceptives (progestin with estrogen) are at risk while using this medicine. In the patients using this medicine, liver
tumors may develop. The rupture of the tumor maybe possibly fatal due to
bleeding.
Ectopic Pregnancy
Women who are using progestin-only oral contraceptives are at increased risk while using this medicine. In patients using this medicine, there is a risk of
pregnancy that grows outside of the uterus (ectopic pregnancy). The patients who become pregnant or have lower abdominal
pain should remain alert while using this medicine for the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy. This medicine should not be used in patients with the history of ectopic pregnancy.
